Due to the lack of medicines and specialist doctors in the Women's Penitentiary of Ciudad Serdán, the Puebla Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), in coordination with the IMSS-Bienestar program, has established a plan to provide periodic and personalized consultations to inmates. This measure was announced by Vice Admiral Francisco Sánchez González and aims to correct structural health shortcomings and improve comprehensive care within the correctional facility. It had been reported that the existing medical staff were in custody positions. "It's true, there is a problem with the supply of medicines, and we also confirmed that the prison lacks specialists that it should have due to the care needs of the women," he said. This came after the Human Rights Commission (CDH) in its 2025 prison report issued various observations on health and infrastructure following interviews with inmates in state prisons. The head of the SSP stated that last October, together with the president of the CDH, Rosa Isela Sánchez Soya, he visited the said prison to inspect the facilities and verify the complaints. Recognizing this situation, the Vice Admiral said he held a meeting with the delegate of IMSS-Bienestar in Puebla, Gerónimo Lara Gálvez, with whom they agreed to provide specialists periodically and integrate the consultations required by the inmates. The official noted that the problem with medicines is not specific to prisons but throughout the country, but despite this, he assured that it is a "national level" prison. Regarding food, he commented that the last visit was made on March 7, the day on which a recognition was given for the quality and hygiene with which the food is prepared, as there is a nutritionist in the prison, and even visitors can bring them other types of food, as they are not conditioned. "We monitor that things are done within the law, so I even invite the press to make a visit to be able to verify the conditions of said reformatory," he said.
